ABOUT US

In 2002, the Mount Olive Community Development Corporation reorganized the Mount Olive Outreach Unlimited Tutorial Program (then being run by the Church) into the Mount Olive Village Center After-School Life Skills Academy.  Its goal was and remains to “provide a designed enriching, out-of-school experience for 50 Parole Community youth in grades Pre-K through 12”.  Thus, the program increased from 20 students attending two days a week for two hours each day, to more than 40 students attending four hours a day for four days a week.  Each day students are provided a snack, dinner, homework assistance, tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment activities directed to improving academic performance of participants are provided daily.

In 2003-2004, community focus groups held by the Mount Olive Community Development Corporation identified the need to increase services to youth and families, and to develop opportunities for economic growth of community residents. Additionally, the Parole community was designated by the Governor’s office of Crime Control and Prevention as a “HotSpot” community.

In response to this overwhelming need identified through these various sources, the Mount Olive Community Development Corporation currently operates a variety of programs and activities, including the erection of the Mount Olive Community Life Center, which will greatly enhance the lives of those in the community.
